PORTLAND, OR -Lyft driver, John Gonzalez, says he is close to finishing his documentary.

“I had been thinking about quitting my engineering job and doing something, you know, important for a long time and so I decided to do that and now I do this,” said Gonzalez. “I just woke up one morning and quit my job and said to my wife ‘I am going to make documentaries now.’ She supports me and that’s great. So yeah’ I’ve been working on it for three years now and I’m about half done. I just got this Lyft job to get out of the house. And also make money since I need that and my wife is tired of my sitting around all day playing x-box, I mean working on my film. Not that I want to pressure you or anything but there is a Kickstarter account for the film if you want to contribute.”

While Lyft estimates that 75% of the company’s drivers are working on a documentary film, Gonzalez says his will be “something really great and interesting.”

According to Gonzalez, the documentary centers around a waitress named Jennie Collins that moved to the United States from Ireland with her nine children.

“I met (Collins) when I went to this Chilis she works at down in Salem. We made small talk and I learned that she was from Ireland and had nine kids. I just found that so interesting,” said Gonzalez. “The weird thing is that she doesn’t have an accent. Also, she is pretty young to have nine kids. And also, I haven’t met any of the kids yet to get them documentary. But she says I can interview them soon.”
