ATHENS, GREECE – After experiencing one of the lowest TV ratings ever with this year’s Winter Olympic Games, members of the International Olympic Committee, IOC, have come up with ways to make the next Olympic Games appeal more to today’s reality show audiences.

A 60 page proposal outlines the plans for combining the popularity of some of America’s hottest shows with the Olympics including one plan to let viewers vote on who gets the medal.

“This year, we lost out every night to that damn ‘American Idol’ show,” said Daniel Webb, chairman of the United States Olympic committee. “‘American-freakin-Idol.’ That is such bullshit. I hate that show but dumbshit Americans can’t get enough of it so… we are going to try something similar with a new show debuting for the 2008 Summer games called ‘American Track Star.’”

“American Track Star” will feature regular American citizens vying for a place on the United States Olympic Track and Field team. Contestants will perform for a panel of celebrity judges with the final vote being cast by television viewers.

“We will tour the country and look for the best of the best,” said ‘American Track Star’ celebrity judge Lisa Loeb. “I don’t know too much about track and field but I’m pretty excited about being a part of the show. It’s important to make sure that the person we select to be on the US team is good looking and has a marketable personality. The actual athletic ability of the person really doesn’t matter… as I was explicitly told by the producers.”

Another show will be based on the popular MTV show “The Real World.” This show will feature a house full of Olympic athletes each, from a different country.

“The premise is a simple one – stick a whole bunch of people from different nationalities in one house and tape the hijinx,” said MTV Producer Keve Spild. “Right now we already have a commitment from Israel and Iran. We haven’t told them that the other one is on the show! I can’t wait. If there isn’t bloodshed within the first week I’ll eat my shoe.”

The IOC has been working with NBC and MTV to develop more reality themed Olympic broadcasting. Some of the titles the group has been working on include “Temptation Archery,” “The Shot-put Bachelor,” and “The Biggest Wrestling Loser.”

“We think that these new shows will give us that added pop to get us back to the top of the ratings,” Webb said. “Take ‘Temptation Archery’ for example. How can you go wrong with deadly projectiles and half naked people? I don’t think you can. We originally had the idea of ‘Temptation Gymnastics,’ but well, you know. Let’s just say that kind of lifestyle won’t get us the ratings that we need in America’s heart land.”

Depending on the shows success, the group plans to continue the programming with the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, BC.
