REDWOOD, CA – In an effort to cash in on some publicity and make a little money, Wanda and Dave Roman have decided to put their baby, little Dave Jr., up for auction on the website eBay. The baby, which bears a resemblance to former President Abraham Lincoln, has a starting bid of five dollars.

Much like many other high profile auctions of late, from a pancake with the image of Jesus on it to a potato that resembles singer Justin Timberlake, the Romans feel that their son will be a successful auction and hopefully net enough money to buy a new car.

“Normally, we would never have thought about selling Junior on eBay, but when that maxi pad with Jesus’ face on it sold for $500, we were like ‘hell, we can get twice that for our little Abe look-alike,’” Wanda Roman said. “We’re hoping to get enough for one of them new Ford Mustangs. Them things are sweet. With that car, Dave and I will be back to normal, back to how it was before the ‘accident.’”

Dave Jr., who just turned 1-year-old last month, is seen with a dark, full beard and a stovepipe hat in the picture submitted to eBay.

“Now right away people think that we faked all this but I can assure you that the beard is 100% real. We did initially put the hat on him, but he just loves it, he puts it on himself now,” said Dave Roman. “I mean really, what kind of monster would put a beard on a kid just to sell him for a large amount of money. And it better be a large amount of money for all the trouble we are going through… I mean, it better be a lot because we really don’t want to part with Dave Jr. Although he does poop a lot more than we thought he would.”

The auction has garnered some controversy. A group of people calling themselves The Save Dave Jr. Coalition has petitioned eBay to remove the auction from its site.

“Selling a baby is absolutely wrong,” said SDJC spokesman Linda Sillmas. “Jesus wasn’t sold as a baby so neither should little Dave Jr. His parents are evil and they should be forced to keep little Dave Jr. God’s children should not be bought and sold over the internet… unless they are Chinese.”

Despite numerous objections, eBay has not removed the auction from its website.

“We here at eBay have a strict policy against selling children over our site. That said, we do not believe that this is a case of selling a child. This is a case of selling a collectors item,” said eBay Vice President Earl Montgomery. “The baby will not be raised as an adopted child rather it will be put on a shelf for display. Just like one of those ceramic cats that are always on sell somewhere on our site. As far as eBay is concerned, there is no difference between selling Dave Jr. and selling an autographed photo of Christian Slater.”

At press time, the auction price for Dave Jr. was up to $7.30.
