Sign Placed In Street Instead of Parenting

BEAVERTON, OR – Instead of parenting, a sign was placed on a local street asking drivers to watch for children.

“We sat down as parents and decided that instead of teaching our kids not to play in the street we’d rather put the burden on the rest of the neighborhood and anyone that drives down our street,” said Brenda Goja. “We have a lot going on and with Real Housewives of Fargo coming back there is just too much to do and we don’t have time to tell our kids that playing in the street is dangerous.”

Goja and her husband Glen have two children and have not spent any time teaching the children about the dangers of playing in the street.

“Being a mom is a full time job, ok!” said Goja. “I don’t have time to teach them about everything. Like… what am I supposed to do? Sit down with them and go over every possible scenario that could possibly happen to them in their live? What do you think I am, one of those helicopter parents? Hell no! I’ve got better things to do than that. Besides, why do I need to even worry about it when I can just go put a sign in the street telling everyone else to watch out for my kids because I let them run around wherever they want?”

The Goja’s children, Brookelynne, 5, and Sheeyawn, 8, say they play in the street “almost every day” but aren’t worried about getting hurt because there is a sign asking drivers to slow down.

“I play in the street!” said Brookelynne. “My friend died because he got hit by a car. But my mom put up that sign. Breadyn’s mom didn’t put up a sign, that’s why he’s dead. I’m going to go play with him tomorrow. Bye!”

Neighbors are concerned that the children play in the street but trust that the Goja’s have placed the sign in a place that is visible to most, if not all drivers.

“I would say that the kids probably shouldn’t play in the street and that maybe Brenda or Glen should, I don’t know… maybe tell the kids that isn’t a good idea?” said the Goja’s neighbor, Devin Freedmont. “But also, there’s the sign so… it’s fine I guess? I mean I can see the sign if Glen hasn’t parked his big truck in front of it, which he does most of the time. But you can see it if you’re looking for it.”

Glen Goja says that he has considered buying additional signs to ensure drivers are watching out for his children that are playing in the middle of the street.

“I saw these really funny signs at Home Depot, and I thought about buying them, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet,” Glen said. “The sign was a turtle and he was holding another sign that said some shit like ‘Slow kids at play,’ and at first I was like ‘how does that turtle know my kids are slow?’ and then I realized that the turtle was telling the drivers to slow down. But I didn’t realize that until after I got home, so that’s why I haven’t bought the signs yet.”

Drivers in the neighborhood say they have noticed the signs but are usually driving past too quickly to see what the sign says.

“Oh, yeah, that weird thing? What is that thing?” said Amazon delivery driver, Frankie Durrabond. “I saw the sign there but I couldn’t figure out what it was or what it said. I had to get to this house and drop off this package before the timer went off and Amazon deducted money from my paycheck because my delivery took longer than AI said it should. But yeah, I saw the sign and it opened up my eyes. HAHA! Get it? It’s like that song from the 90s that that hot European chick sang. That was a good band, I wonder what happened to them?””
